NEWS TO KNOW (July 2015)

Ms. Bruner will be leading our six Daycare Directors at each elementary school to provide high quality licensed childcare in the afterschool and full day programs for the 2015-16 school year.  She has been working this summer at our full day summer camp at Panther Power - Painted Stone Elementary.  The program is open from 7am-6pm Monday thru Friday / June 8-July 31.  This summer has been a student led program following “The Seven Habits.” Students have worked on being proactive and beginning with the end in mind by having Light House Meetings each Monday to plan their activities for the week.  The students have had the opportunities to synergize during free choice play, gross motor play, arts and crafts, using the Ipads to gain information, science experiments to share with each other and to participate in the summer reading program by reading for 30 minutes each day.  They have worked on finding the win/win in situations and seeking first to understand, the be understood with their peers.  Students have either gone swimming at the FAC or traveled for a picnic at splash parks once a week and have gone on field trips to the Louisville Zoo, Kentucky Science Center and Coach D Park.  This Thursday, PSE’s gym will truly be the place to be with Backyard Bounce setting up our own Bounce House for the day.  Students have led themselves in a science fair and are following the eighth habit (find your voice and help others find theirs) by having Panther Power’s Got Talent and Art Show on July 30.  They are closing out the summer with the seventh habit (sharpening your saw) by going to Barnes and Noble to receive a book of their choice for meeting their reading goals and picnicking at the Water Park Splashpark.
