Juniors at Shelby County High School learned how to think and write like historians in a recent project about 20th Century Wars. As a culminating project, students had the opportunity to interview and document oral histories of 14 veterans and currently enlisted Shelby Countians. Veterans served in the Gulf and Iraq Wars and in Afghanistan. Students were intrigued by the similarities in experiences between Vietnam veterans and Iraq veterans. Published eBooks will be available in the Shelby County High School library with links to the recordings of each veteran. We hope to continue this work in the future as we hear from more Shelby County veterans.
Special thanks to our veterans: Bobby Powell, Barry Campbell, Eddie Mason, Lance Grebe, Destany Watkins, Chris Nowak, John Von Handorf, Julie Ashbaugh, LuWanda Knuckles, Richard Quire, Walt Wilson, Heather Morgan, Michael Webb and Keith Spurlock.
