Shelby County ATC is part of a statewide 55 school system known as Kentucky Tech. The goal of our system is to provide technical training to high school students in Kentucky. The Shelby County ATC offers 7 technical programs and serves approximately 850 students from Shelby County, Martha Layne Collins, Henry County, and Eminence High Schools. Bruce Edwards’ automotive technology senior class won first place in a competition at the Carl Casper Custom Auto Show on February 22 in Louisville. The class entered a competition titled “Automotive Design and Concept Challenge” to showcase their ideas about futuristic Automotive design and engineering. The students displayed the benefits of Hybrid vehicle. They presented ideas for a power full gasoline-electric pickup truck. Students were(from left) Jared Franklin, Franco Mendez, Christopher Langley, Ebenezer Alvarez, Nick Poe, Austin Arington, Hayden McIntosh, Danny Casia, Clinton Spinks, and Justyn Barnes. |

2013 SkillsUSA Regional Winners |

On March 1, 2013 several Shelby County Area Technology Center SkillsUSA members tested their technical skills against other regional SkillsUSA high schools members. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce . SkillsUSA helps each student to develop their job kills, including leadership. The students competed in Automotive Service Technology, Mechatronics and Information Technology.
Pictured Left to Right: Stephen Carter – 1st in Webpage, Ben Shuck – 1st in Web Design, Justyn Barnes - Automotive Service Technology, Clinton Spinks - Automotive Service Technology, Edgar Hernandez – 1st in Mechatronics, Shawn Carriss – 1st in Mechatronics, Elizabeth Hawkins - 1st in Telecommunications, $3,000 Scholarship Award to Lincoln College of Technology, Zac Widman Ward – 2nd in Computer Maintenance Tech, Wyatt Brookshier – 1st in Computer Maintenance.
On April 2 most of the students will be competing at the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills competition in Louisville, Ky. This opportunity will add to their experiences and hopefully lead to a trip to the SkillsUSA National Conference in Kansas City, Missouri in June.
