Thirteen HOSA members competed in the state conference March 11-13 this year.
Our Bio-Medical debate team consisted of Angelina Ethington, Jana Gilliam and Jennifer Swenson. Their topic was “Should there be mandatory drug testing of high school students?” After much preparation and the settling of nerves, our team placed third in the state and qualified for the National HOSA competition to be held in Orlando, Florida in June. Congratulations debate team!

The team of Brittney Underwood, Hannah Abbott, Megan Jenkins, and Haley Allen competed in the HOSA bowl. The team placed third in the overall written exam, but due to a technicality they did not get to continue in the competitive round. Great job team and we will “get-em” next year!

Tim Shafter and Anndrea Smith represented Shelby County ATC HOSA by competing in the CPR/First Aid event. Although they didn’t place Tim will be able to compete again next year and with his experience, we expect a state win!

Students in Mrs. Allen’s MNA 100 class preparing for their first day on the clinical site at Masonic Home, Shelbyville. The students will qualify to sit the state CNA exam after completeing the total 75 instructional hours. The state exam is scheduled for May 13, 2010. Good Luck students!

Other members that competed: Samantha Morgan – Medical Terminology; Ekrema Lilic and Brea Stansbury – Health Career Display Board; Amye Drury Outstanding HOSA chapter-scrapbook.
The state HOSA conference was held in Louisville, KY at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. We had a great time and enjoyed the experience. It will only prepare us to be more competitive next year.
