April 25th, Farrier Product Distribution in Shelbyville really made a difference for this SkillsUSA State Champion, Mark (Austin) Holbrook.  Austin was in need of a sponsor to offset the cost to attend the SkillsUSA National Conference in June, where he will be competing with State winners around the United States in Computer Maintenance.

That's when Farrier Products came to the rescue.  In the past, Farrier Products Distribution has stepped forward to sponsor a student by paying for his industry computer repair certifications.  Hoping for a savior, they were contacted and asked to help once again; without hesitation, they agreed and really made a difference.

Welcome to a really high tech program. Sometimes, class work and studying doesn’t teach all you need to know about technology. We also layout and install our own equipment. This program is open to 9th to 12th grade students. You can take just one course a tri-semester or several. For more information, contact me or your guidance office.

A major goal of this program is to help students prepare for industry recognized certifications like the CompTIA A+ certifications (left). We are a closed CompTIA test site.  Our students participate in a wide variety of competitions through SkillsUSA (center).  This senior just finished running cabling (right).

The program begins with  Computer Maintenance Essentials and Advance Computer Maintenance Tech. These courses introduce the fundamentals of computers and computer systems. Students will use diagnostic software as well as Windows and DOS. These courses will prepare students to take standard industry certification test such as A+. The “Computer Maintenance Essentials ” classes are open to 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Special permission could be granted to mature freshman.  Many students take all the computer classes before they graduate.

Based on the students quest for more classes, several are taught bi-annually or tri-annually. In addition, we also offer courses through distance learning. (see back page for classes schedule).

Students use the web-based CISCO curriculum and testing available through CISCO networking academy curriculum, designed to teach students how to build, repair, and troubleshoot  routers and networks. In addition, we have added Net + (not as advanced as Cisco) and Structured Cabling (the proper way to install data cabling) classes. PC Operating System Support and PC Applications Support are Microsoft Desktop Support Certification classes.
