Leo Young of Simpsonville (a former member of the Shelby County Board of Education) has been selected as a winner in America’s Farmers Grow CommunitiesSM, which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for a favorite, local nonprofit organization. The donations are available through the Monsanto Fund. Young designated the Martha Layne Collins High School FFA Chapter to receive the funds. |

Martha Layne Collins High School has received a $10,000 grant from Project Lead The Way (PLTW), the nation’s leading provider of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum. Funds from the grant will support the school’s PLTW engineering program, including continued teacher professional development and the purchase of materials and equipment for the hands-on, project-based classes that are a distinguishing characteristic of PLTW’s curriculum. |

Scholarship applications and information that are now available in the Guidance Office:
- Kings Daughters-Fiscal Court Scholarship - Deadline May 3
- SCEA Scholarship for students entering the education field - Deadline May 4
- The Fraternal Order of Police Scholarship, for those pursuing a Law Enforcement Degree - Deadline May 15
- The B. Davis Scholarship, Deadline May 28
Parents and students should feel free to stop by the Guidance Office and speak to a counselor regarding any of the above scholarships. |
