Youth Services Center
The Shelby County High School – Youth Services Center, opened in 2007 and provides assistance to students and their families. The center is funded through the Cabinet for Health and Families for the purpose of removing social barriers to student learning. The center’s assistance includes but is not limited to:
- Helping students and their families with support for basic needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, payments for student ‘s medical care
- Providing students with school clothing, basic school supplies, and personal hygiene items
- Conducting health screenings and assist students in obtaining medical, dental, and vision care
- Teaching students about positive behavior traits, internet safety, personal health, and personal finances
- Helping students learn about job opportunities, and teach interview skills
- Helping families enroll in KCHIP and Passport medical coverage
- Teaching students about substance abuse and provide assistance in obtaining substance abuse counseling
- Connecting families with local health and human service agencies
- Providing students with volunteer opportunities and career exploration opportunities
- Providing information and educational resources to parents on everything from managing a household budget, to healthy nutrition to dealing with a troubled teen.
Services are free and available to any SCHS student and their family.
The Youth Services Center is located in room 111 at the school.
We’re open Mon – Fri 8:00am until 3:45pm, evening appointments are available upon request.
