SBDM Minority Parent Election for
Simpsonville Elementary
2012-2013
According to our Site-Based Decision-Making policy, a special election for parents needs to be held. State statutes dictate that we elect at least 1 minority parent representative to the SBDM Council, due to the fact that at least 8% of our student population is made up of minorities, KRS 160.345 (2) (B) 2. The law (160.345 (1) (a) defines “minority” as “American Indian; Alaskan native; African-American; Hispanic, including persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central and South American origin; Pacific Islander; or other ethnic group underrepresented in the school.”
Simpsonville Site-Based Decision-Making Council meets regularly on the first Tuesday of the month at 3 pm in our school library. Members receive yearly training in order to participate. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Please send nominations to me by 3 pm Tuesday, August 21. Elections will take place Tuesday, August 28
in the office from 7:15 am to 7:30 pm. Thank you.

Simpsonville Elementary staff is excited to begin the 2012-2013 school year. Teachers are busy preparing for the arrival of our students as we look forward to setting individual academic goals and celebrating our achievements. Our Bobcat Family is working hard to get 80% of our students on grade level in reading. We want every student to be college and career ready! With our core academic standards, we will be pushing our students like never before. We are all about achieving excellence! To get you motivated and on the right foot, we have some events planned to get you acquainted with the school along with some changes – even if you are a returning student. Some teachers have moved to new locations. The gym floor was refinished this summer and the walls received a new coat of paint. So, please plan on these activities:
One big event under way is when teachers visit your home to meet you and your children. Teachers are contacting families to conduct the home visits before school begins. This is a wonderful way to connect your child with his or her teacher... and for parents to build a relationship that we want to expand during the year. As Principal at Simpsonville Elementary, I wear many hats. However, my main hat is instructional leader and I know we are ready for yet another awesome year at Simpsonville! Please know we will continue to communicate with you during the year as we celebrate our academic achievement toward reaching that 80% goal. Thank you for visiting our website. We hope you found the information you were seeking. Jill Tingle, Principal
