5th Grade Promotion

Our Southside 5^th Grade students will be having their Promotion Ceremony on Tuesday, May 21^st starting at 11:30AM. The Promotion Ceremony will be held at the Centenary Church 429 Main Street. Ice Cream punch and cake will be served following the Promotion Ceremony.

Engineering Gateway Academy

Collins High is sponsoring Project Lead The Way 2013 Engineering Gateway Academy June 10^th – 14^th from 8am – Noon. There are 2 courses being offered: Mars Rover Robotics Challenge for 4^th and 5^th Grade and Gateway Problem Solving Academy for 6^th and 7^th Grade. Lessons are lead by PLTW engineering scholars! The program cost is $95.00 per student. If you are interested in registering for this summer opportunity, Southside Elementary has registration forms. Shelby County Public Schools checks enrollment at each school to determine capacity levels so the attendance waiver process can be reviewed. For the 2013-2014 school year, the only school where attendance waivers will be accepted is Heritage Elementary and only for grades Kindergarten, 1 and 2, according to Dr. Dave Weedman, Director of Pupil Personnel.

Letters have been sent to those families whose children have been included in waivers during the current school year. Requests for renewals are due June 30 to Central Office (1155 West Main Street) for confirmation the waiver can continue. Weedman said the decision is based on the student’s academic, attendance and behavior records.
