Volunteer Opportunities
PROJECT READ: Read with some of our students that are struggling readers. You will be paired with 2 students for one to one reading assistance each Friday AM for an hour (30 minutes each). Requirements: Must be an Approved Shelby County Volunteer; personal schedule will allow for Friday AM; brief training by our Reading Recovery teachers.
Accelerated Reader: Log in students to the classroom computer and assist with reading the AR Test and answers to those students that may need assistance with reading the test. Requirements: Approved Shelby County Volunteer

Don’t Forget to Spring Forward! Set your clocks an hour forward this Saturday night! Sunday starts Daylight Savings Time! K-Prep Testing All 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade students will be taking the K-Prep State Test the week of May 6th through 11th. It is very important that all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are on time and in attendance the whole day. We ask that any appointments that need to be made during that week be made after school. Kindergarten Registration Southside Elementary will be holding Kindergarten Registration on Wednesday, March 27th from 9:00am-1:30pm and again on Tuesday, April 23rd from 5:30pm-7:30pm. Your child must be five years old by October 1st and you will need to bring your child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and two proofs of residency.
