TESTING WEEK FOR 3RD, 4TH, AND 5TH GRADE STUDENTS 

Monday May 14th thru Friday May 18th our 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade students will be taking the IOWA and K-PREP tests. Southside is requesting that any appointments that would require a student to be late to school or withdrawn early be scheduled after school hours.

VOLUNTEERING AT THE END OF THE YEAR

From now until the end of May there will be several field trips and school events that offer volunteer opportunities. Please remember that you must be an Approved Volunteer to chaperone or supervise students during these trips and events. Southside keeps a list of the Approved Volunteers that has been given to us by our District Office. Please check to make sure that you are an Approved Volunteer. If you are not, you may still come and enjoy all of the fun activities with your student by may not be put in charge of overseeing or working with a group of students. If you have any questions about the policy that our District has in place for volunteers, please feel free to call Beth Cathcart, Southside FRC at 633-4460.

SOUTHSIDE FIELD DAY 

Southside’s Field Day is scheduled for Tuesday May29th. We are seeking Parent Volunteers for this event. If you are interested in volunteering, please look for information coming home with your student. The times and activities that volunteers are needed will be outlined on this informational flyer. Field Day is a fun day at Southside and student’s love when they have a parent or friend to share it with them! Please remember that to supervise students you must be an Approved Volunteer however you are always welcome to come and spend time with your student! 

SEEKING SHOEBOXES 

We are seeking shoeboxes for summer math kits that will go home for some of our Southside students. If you have shoeboxes at home that you can send in with your student we would greatly appreciate it!

EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENINGS 

Free for all Shelby County children

who are 3 years old by July 31,2012 or 4 years old by October 1,2012. Screening days are May 23rd and May 24th by appointment only. The screenings will take place at the Painted Stone Preschool. Children will be screened for: Speech and Language, Hearing, Motor, Behavior and Cognitive Development. To apply for Head Start or the Shelby County Preschool Program the following information must be provided: Immunization Record; Birth Certificate; Proof of Income; Physical Exam; Vision Exam; 2 proofs of residence. 5TH GRADE PARENT REMINDERS

“Meet Me in the Middle” Transition Night for West Middle: This Tuesday, May 15th from 6:00-7:30PM students and parents/guardians are invited to attend West Middle School’s Transition Night for all incoming 6th grade students. Your student should have brought home a flyer with event information on it. You need to RSVP to this event if you and your student will be attending. For more information about this event please contact West Middle at 633-4869.

End of Year Field Trip to Indianapolis Children’s Museum: On Friday May 25th, 5th grade the students will be leaving Southside at 7:15AM and returning to Southside at 5:30PM. All money is due to Southside if your student is planning on attending this end of the year field trip. If you have questions or concerns about the field trip, please contact Southside at 633-4460.

5th Grade Promotion Ceremony: Will be held on Friday, June 1st at 12:00PM at the Centenary United Methodist Church. The church is located at 429 Main Street.

K-4 AWARDS DAY 

        Southside’s Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Grade Awards Day will be held on Monday, June 4th starting at 9:00AM. Fun school activities are planned for our students that afternoon.

2.) Turn the word “chores” into RESPONSIBILITIES and make a list of tasks each family member is trusted to complete for the week.

3.) Take the RESPONSIBILITY lists from last week and talk about what life would be like if no one did what was expected of them.

4.) Host a RESPONSIBILITY dinner, officially divvying up tasks that make your household successful. Celebrate future RESPONSIBILITY!
