SCHOOL-BASED DECISION MAKING

Wright Elementary

Dress Code Policy

Policy Statement:  Dress Code

EXPECTATIONS FOR Dress Code:

A dress code policy is being implemented at Wright Elementary in order to ensure that there are no barriers for learning for ALL students and to ensure the safety of ALL students.

As schools are primarily educational institutions, no extreme form of personal appearance will be allowed to interfere with the educational process.  Attention should be given to neatness, cleanliness and modesty.  The principal may take steps for a student who does not meet the dress code criteria.

  • Appropriate wording on T-Shirts, sweatshirts, and pants/shorts

(i.e. NO wording that has a negative profane, condescending or distracting connotation)

  • Appropriate shorts may be worn and must be no shorter than two inches above the knee.  No short shorts allowed.

  • Dresses and skirts should be no shorter than two inches above knee.

  • Full-length pants, crop pants and culottes are acceptable.

  • Midriff blouses, halter-tops and shirts that do not extend completely to the lower garment are not allowed.  Also, NO tank tops, spaghetti straps or sleeveless undershirts (unless worn under or over another acceptable shirt); and shirts that do not extend completely to the lower garment are not allowed.

  • Undergarments must not be visible.

  • Hats and sunglasses may not be worn in the school building.

  • All shoes MUST be closed toe and the heel of the shoe must have a back or back strap – no flip flops or sandals.  Also no cleats, skate shoes, or other shoes that may damage floors will be allowed.  Heels on shoes should be no higher than one inch.  Tennis shoes/sneakers are the best choice.

  • No make up may be worn to school.

  • Clothing that could be harmful or dangerous to other students is not allowed

(i.e. slam bracelets, large hoop earrings, etc.)

We believe that through dress code policy children will enter Wright Elementary to learn and leave to achieve with great successes.
