Wright Elementary

 

Textbook Policy

 

Policy Statement:  Determination of which textbooks shall be used at Wright Elementary

 

Purpose:  This policy explains the procedure used to determine the textbooks which shall be used as instructional materials within the school.  This policy is pursuant to KRS 160.345(2(h).

 

Procedure:  An Ad Hoc committee from the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Committee will be formed to study textbook samples, survey the staff to their preferences, and make recommendations to the council.  Assignment to the Ad Hoc committee will be determined in accordance with the policy on committees and will be based upon staff expertise and individual interest in the specific content area of the textbooks to be adopted. 

 

Criteria:  Staff members, either as teams, grades, or individuals, may select supplemental and related materials in support of the curriculum, in addition to those chosen.  The primary obligation of ALL staff members is to take into consideration the needs of their students and to select the materials that best meet those needs.  The SBDM council shall make the final determination regarding supplemental materials used.

 

Procurement:  The principal shall be responsible for ordering, receiving, and paying for selected textbooks and related textbook materials within the parameters of total funds available for this purpose.  Remaining funds shall be carried over into the following fiscal year.  This shall be handled in the manner and be compliant with the procedure for textbook adoption established by the Shelby County Board of Education.
