    Multi-Tiered System of Support

    Response to Intervention Model

    What is Response to Intervention?
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier system of support for all children. The RTI process is built on a foundation of high-quality instruction for all children in the general education classroom. Students who are not finding success through these modes of instruction are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of success, in both academics and behavior, on top of core instruction. These interventions may be provided by the regular education teacher, interventionists, specialists, special education teachers, counselors, mental health consultants and other professionals in the school. Progress is closely monitored to assess rates of improvement in the areas of concern. Through the analysis of these progress tools, teachers analyze the child’s response to the interventions being provided and make next steps decisions about changes in strategy, interventions, or levels of tiers.

What is my role, as a parent?
When schools and families collaborate to support student learning, student outcomes are improved, dramatically. Continuous parent communication and collaborative problem solving is an integral part to this process. Some important things you can do as a parent, are to ask questions, ask for resources to support your child, and be involved in parent conferences. Never be shy to share your insights about your child with the teachers and administrators. Follow the "Helpful Information and Resources" tab to the left, to find a parent toolkit with sample questions to ask and ideas for parent involvement that support your child.
