    CCE Familes,

We have had a busy and rewarding first semester! I have been so encouraged by the learning and progress we have seen in our students.

Most grade levels have had their first exhibition for the year and they have been very successful! I hope you were able to attend to see your child demonstrate their learning. If not, there will be an opportunity for you again in the second semester. Every grade level will have 2 exhibitions of learning this school year. This is our 2nd year with exhibitions and we've already seen such growth in the way our students are communicating their learning and their increase in confidence!

Another big addtion to Clear Creek in the recent weeks has been our rock wall in the gym. The students have been learning how to be safe on it and climbing it in PE. They have really enjoyed this experience and it is becuase of your support during the cookie dough fundraiser. Thank you!

I hope you will share in this endeavour and find ways to work with us to foster a community of lifelong learners.

This year, your childen will demonstrate their learning in many different ways through the Profile of a Graduate. I encourage you to become familiar with the Shelby County Profile of a Graduate and ask your students how they are showing competence and learning in each of the components. Click here if you are interested in additional information or to see the Profile of a Graduate.

If you are interested in volunteering, fill out the volunteer form so we can process those background checks and get you set up. We are looking forward to partnering with you this year to make this a successful year for everyone! Our parent organization is also very involved in our school and would always love your support. • May/June Update

Posted by Kim Willhoite on 5/22/2018 1:00:00 PM

    Clear Creek Families,

We are nearing the end of another busy school year. We have had so many exciting new ventures this year. We fully launched Project Based Learning and held our first exhibitions for the public. The students were so engaged in their learning throughout their projects and were excited to share their learning. We also had a ribbon cutting for our new outdoor classroom. This was a huge Eagle Scout project completed by a former CCE student, Spencer Cerlain!

Of course, we have had many events at the end of the year and I appreciate your patience in keeping up with all of them. As we wind down the next few days we still have award ceremonies for each grade level. Here is the schedule for your reference. Remember, we start each event on time as we have several in one day.

    Kindergarten: Friday, May 25th at 1:00 p.m.

    1st Grade: Friday, May 25th at 8:00 a.m.

    2nd Grade: Friday, May 25th at 9:00 a.m.

    3rd Grade: Thursday, May 24th at 1:00 p.m.

    4th Grade: Thursday, May 24th at 8:00 a.m.

    5th Grade: Friday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m.

I am also happy to announce our new Assistant Principal, Chris Crouch. Mr. Crouch has been an educator for 18 years in many different roles. He will start with us at the beginning of next year. We are sad to see Mrs. Page leave us, but know she is not going very far away and will still be around to check on us. For those of you that do not know, Mrs. Page recently accepted the district Response to Intervention Consultant position. Mr. Crouch will have a meet and greet in the Clear Creek library on Friday, May 25th from 3-4 p.m.

There are many fun events planned over the summer. I hope you join us for as many as your schedule allows! Happy Summer!!

  • April Update

Posted by Kim Willhoite on 4/5/2018

    Clear Creek Families,

Happy Spring! I hope you enjoyed our 2-week spring break and found some time to play and learn with your children.

Spring is a time for new beginnings and we are very excited to welcome our newest students to Clear Creek. On April 17th from 5-7 p.m. and again on April 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., we will host our annual kindergarten registration. Please bring your child with you to registration so we can give them the kindergarten readiness screener. We would also like for you to bring 2 proofs of residence, the child’s birth certificate, the child’s social security card, a copy of the child’s physical form, and a copy of the most up to date immunization record. If any of these items are not available in time for the registration, do not let that keep you from attending. They can always be turned in over the course of the summer. We are also planning a Kindergarten Orientation for our incoming kindergarteners on May 2nd at 5:30 p.m. On that evening, you and your kindergartener will be given an introduction to our school, a tour of the building, and some resources/tools to use over the summer with your child. If you have any questions, please call the school office at 633-3452.

April will also be a busy month as we wrap up another great school year. Several classes have field trips planned to provide students the opportunities to experience deeper learning. We will also have our last round of student exhibitions. They are scheduled for the evenings of April 24th and 25th. Your child’s teacher will send home specific information about the events of the evening.

Please follow us at on Twitter @clearcreeknews for updates, news, and reminders. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any way.

  • February/March Update

Posted by Kim Willhoite on 2/15/2018 4:00:00 PM

    Clear Creek Families,

We have survived multiple snow days and lots of sick kids and adults over the past month! We have tried to stay on schedule and not let these things affect our student and family events or our student's learning.

In January, we had our first student exhibition night. I was overwhelmed by the family support, the students' performances, and the attendance of our central office staff and board members. Our kids were excited to share their thinking and learning with so many different people. We were proud of their confidence and ability to articulate their learning. We will have another exhibition night in April. Please look for more information on that event after we return from Spring Break. I hope we have an even larger turn out that day.

We have already started to gear up for kindergarten registration for the 2018-19 school year! I can't believe we will be working on registering another group of incoming kindergarteners so soon! We have kindergarten registration at each elementary school in the county on April 17th from 5-7 p.m. and again on April 18th from 9-1 p.m. There are many things we ask you to bring with you when you register your child. [Please see the list below.] The items are not required to register your child in April, but most are due before school starts. So, don't let those items keep you from coming out for registration. Please work on obtaining or finding those documents over the summer and they can be dropped off to the school office at any time. Your incoming kindergartener needs to come with you to registration. We will administer a kindergarten screening assessment that evening and you will hear their results before you leave.

We are also planning a Kindergarten Orientation on May 2nd at 5:30 p.m. You will receive full details on this night at registration. The orientation will provide you a tour of the building, activities for you to play at home to help prepare them, and a time for you to ask questions of the teachers and school staff.

List of items needed for Kindergarten Registration:

    • your Kindergarten age child (age 5 on or before August 1st)
    • 2 proofs of residence (2 utility bills and/or copy of lease/mortgage)
    • your child’s birth certificate
    • his/her physical
    • your child’s Social Security Card
    • a current copy of your child’s immunization on a KY form

We are 5 weeks away from Spring Break but have so much work and learning to accomplish before we get there. Ask your child(ren) what they are learning in school and how they know they are learning or mastering their standards. Engage them in discussions about their thinking and progress in school.

    Clear Creek Families,

It has already been a very busy 2018! We just experienced our 2nd successful SnoGo day! Thank you for your support and assisting your children in keeping their learning going while at home. We know that your support is critical and we value your time. Please send in the SnoGo menus when we return to school after each SnoGo day. We use those menus to document the student's learning and send information to the Kentucky Department of Education so we can continue to use SnoGo as an option for our school district.

On January 22nd and 23rd our students will be demonstrating their latest learning in a new way. This school year your child has been engaged in Project Based Learning (PBL). This is a teaching and learning method in which students learn new knowledge and skills by investigating and responding to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem or challenge.

Your child will be presenting their learning from a PBL project. We invite you to attend and provide your child feedback on their speaking and presenting skills.

    • Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Exhibitions: January 22nd starting at 5:00 p.m.
    • 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Exhibitions: January 23rd starting at 5:00 p.m.

You should have received a letter inviting you to this event and providing you additional details. Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • November/December Update

Posted by Kim Willhoite on 11/22/2017 10:00:00 PM

    Clear Creek Family,

We just completed our United Way Campaign. As a school, staff and students, we raised $6,000! I am so humbled by your generosity and support. Thank you for making this one of our best campaigns so far!

We have several things coming up that will be of interest to you: school production of We Are Monsters, school-wide field trip to Martha Lane Collins High School for a showing of the Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and student exhibitions.

December 1st and 2nd a group of our 4th and 5th graders will be performing We Are Monsters! The play is situated in an old abandoned theatre and a group of monsters decide to host a Monster Cabaret. Various groups of monsters perform, but a group of human children sneak in. Come and watch the show to see what happens when the humans are discovered.

On December 14 and 15 the school will watch a drama production by the students at MLCHS. It will be a great opportunity for our students to see a quality theatre experience. Due to the size of our student body we will be splitting the school into two different viewings. Field trip permission forms will be sent home soon. Please watch for those. There is not a cost for your child to attend.

In January, every student will present their learning from a recent project at our 1st Exhibition night! We are very excited for our students to demonstrate their learning to a public audience. Clear Creek families will be invited into the school to observe the student exhibitions and provide them feedback on their speaking and presentation skills. I hope you are able to make this event a priority in your family schedule.

  • September Update

Posted by Kim Willhoite on 9/5/2017 10:00:00 AM

    Clear Creek Family,

We have been very busy this past month! Our students are now back and in full swing. They have learned and reviewed our procedures and received a booster in the 7 Habits. Here is more information about the 7 habits if you are interested in learning more about this program: http://www.theleaderinme.org/

As a refresher, here are the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:

    1. Be Proactive
    2. Begin with the End in Mind
    3. Put First Things First
    4. Think Win-Win
    5. Seek First to Understand then to be Understood
    6. Synergize
    7. Sharpen the Saw

We will continue to use these habits this year as we learn and grow.

I also want to share with you the Profile of a Graduate. Our district has recently finalized this document after receiving feedback from teachers, staff, parents, and community members. We are very excited to roll out this profile and allow it to guide our work over the next few years. As a district, we want to grow and build well-rounded students and the profile allows us to focus our efforts on a few key areas. Here is the website if you wish to seek additional information: https://www.shelby.kyschools.us/domain/1353

Domains of the Profile of a Graduate

    1. A Critical Thinker
    2. A Responsible Collaborator
    3. A Lifelong Learner
    4. An Effective Communicator
    5. A Global Citizen
    6. An Inspired Innovator

Lastly, later this month we will have an informational session on Standards Based Grading. I hope you will mark it on your calendar. I know there are still many questions about this grading system. That evening will be set up to provide you an overview of the system and allow you time to ask many of the questions you have.

Please follow us at on Twitter @clearcreeknews for updates, news, and reminders. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any way.
