SCHS Clubs

Extra-curricular and co-curricular experiences are a big part of high school life. SCHS offers a lot of opportunities for our students to explore their passions.

Best Buddies – Mrs. Haggard

Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This program empowers the special abilities of people with disabilities by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers.  This club allows students with and without disabilities to form relationships with one another through school activities and are encouraged to outside of school as well.  Activities involved in this club are holiday parties, Rocket Games, R-Word campaign, a unified basketball team, Plane Pull, Polar Plunge, and forming some of the best friendships!

3.0 GPA or higher Excellence in character, leadership and service. Membership is by application only. Meetings are held during the school day.

Black Achievers – Mr. Robbins

The Black Achievers club does not exclude based on race, but rather is a multiracial effort to help all teens of color develops to their fullest potential. Our objectives are to help youth view themselves in a positive way, raise academic standards, build character, show students various career options, have role models whose success and knowledge will help inspire and motivate, and provide business and industry leaders the opportunity for community involvement.

Dodgeball Club - Ramirez

FCA – Mr. S. Williams/Mr. Blanton/Mr. Bracken

FCA is club to explore and discuss who Jesus is. Building each other up and rooting each other in the truth and grace of Jesus Christ. All students are welcome to join. FCA’s core values are: Integrity, Serving, Teamwork, and Excellence.

FCCLA – 

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic national student organization that helps teens become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues.

FCCLA programs are planned and run by members with family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.

 The Shelby County High School FCCLA is very active with a variety of local projects such as the Blood Drive, Linus Blankets, Pennies for Patients, Adopt a Grandparent, Human Trafficking Awareness, Child Abuse Awareness, Unite to Read and Serve.  In order to join, you should have had a Family and Consumer Science class.  For more info go to http://fcclainc.org/membership/join-fccla.php

FFA – Mr. Ewing

The FFA is a leadership club for students enrolled in agriculture classes.  Members have opportunities to participate in leadership positions, community service projects, career development events and speech contests at the local, regional, state and national level.  Many field trips in the department are reserved for FFA members only and include trips to area colleges for contests and tours, the Farm Machinery Show, the North American International Livestock Expo and National Convention.

French Honor Society 

“La Société Honoraire de Français“ is the French National Honor Society for U.S. high school students.

The aim of the French Honor Society is to stimulate interest in the study of French, to promote high standards of scholarship, to reward scholastic achievements, to create enthusiasm for and an understanding of Francophone cultures, and to promote international friendship.

Invitation to membership shall be restricted to those students actively engaged in the study of French. Candidates must be enrolled in their third semester of French. The candidates must be in the 10th, 11th or 12th grade of high school. The eligibility requirements to be met by those students are as follows :

The candidates must have maintained an A- average or higher in French I and II. The candidates must have maintained a B- average or higher in all other secondary school subjects. The members of the French Honor Society will meet at least once a month in room 129 (4^th period).

Homebuilders – Mr. Wilson

National association of home builders, student chapter; meets monthly with various members of the construction industry.  Membership is restricted to students who are taking construction classes during the current year or are enrolled in the carpentry pathway.

HOSA – Ms. Fishback

Interact Club/Rotary – Mrs. Siemen

Interact club is a service club for high school students that is sponsored by our local Rotary club. Interact club seeks to accomplish at least two service projects each year starting from the local level, moving all the way up to the international stage. Interact club is a high school level, mixed grade, co-ed club that is part of clubs across 109 nations in the world. Interact club provides a way for students to reach out to and be involved in their community and in turn are offered service hours and scholarship opportunities for students who demonstrate goodwill, respect, leadership, integrity and understanding.

NHS – Mrs. Webb/Mrs. Ricke

Nationally recognized academic high school organization.  Students will grow in socially and academically.  3.5 weighted or unweighted GPA plus excellence in character, service, leadership and scholarship.  Meeting during school.  Applications accepted in the fall and spring.  Membership by application only. 

Prom Committee – Mrs. Lindemier

The prom committee is open to all Juniors who want to help plan the Junior/Senior Prom. Seniors who were on the committee last year can attend meetings to assist in the planning process. The committee works on the theme, decorations, food, prom court and other decisions that need to be made. Any interested Junior must attend the meetings.  Meetings are announced via Remind, The Rocket News, and morning announcements. Text @schsprom19 to 81010 to join.

The committee is open to join until December 14, 2018.

Rocket Squad- Mrs. Caranna

Rocket Squad is a club that exists to empower students to build culture, community, and school pride. They plan and implement school activities such as pep rallies, student sections at games, and other social gatherings.

Anyone can join, 8th -12th grade. Meetings will be announced once a month for whole club; specialized committees will form and meet occasionally as well.

Senior Class Committee – Mrs. Haggard

Seniors apart of the senior class committee/planning will be involved in planning senior activities, a holiday dance, fundraisers, and helping to make SCHS seniors have a great last year of high school!

Shelby Prevention – Mrs. Windhorst

Shelby Prevention youth is a coalition of community volunteers- parents, students, local government, healthcare, education, social services, media, law enforcement, faith community, and more- that work together to provide programs, activities, and community projects for the purpose of building a drug-free community, healthy families and safe schools

VEX Robotics – Mr. Cordray

Build robots and compete in VEX robotics. There are no requirements to come and learn but there are fees for competitions. Come join us on Thursdays in Room 117 after school!

United Students for Equality--Mr. Mason & Ms. Olsson

This club was made by students to give people in this school a place to feel safe and respected regardless of Gender, Sexuality, Religion, Skin Color, Disability, and Other Attributes.

The club is held in Mr. Mason’s room, 211, every 2nd and 4th Monday after school.
