Inclement Weather and School Closing Information
It’s January and snow is in the forecast! In December, we reminded you to think about a “Plan B” in case schools need to close due to inclement weather. Students, parents, and staff will be notified through our Blackboard Messenger system via email, phone call, and text, then it will be posted to our Facebook, Twitter, and our website. Finally, we notify the news media, and they will post on television and radio stations. Our goal is to notify everyone as soon as possible.
These are the possibilities available for SCPS students and families:
- A Non-Traditional Instruction Day (NTI Day) - students will work online at home. Teachers will share times and procedures for NTI. The school day times will closely reflect the normal school day. Elementary 8:00 - 2:30; Middle and High is 8:30 - 3:00. These are the hours teachers will be available and attendance will be taken.
- Snow Day (Schools Closed) - schools will be closed and instruction may or may not be made up at a later date.
- One or Two-Hour Delay - students will begin class one or two hours after their usual time. Buses will run on a one or two hour delay and doors will open one or two hours after the usual reporting time when staff is available for supervision of students. Do not drop students off prior to the scheduled school start time.
- Early dismissal - a Blackboard phone, text, and email message will be sent at least an hour before the dismissal if there is inclement weather.
Extracurricular activities will be reviewed on an individual basis by the school principal, with central office input.
It is imperative that you have the correct contact information on file with your schools so that you can receive messaging. Again, work on a plan “B.” We know that altering our usual schedules creates difficulties for everyone. The key is to be prepared.
