MLCHS Evan Fields Named as one of the Top Twelve High School Anglers in the Country

Martha Layne Collins High School student Evan Fields was named one of the TOP TWELVE HIGH SCHOOL ANGLERS in the country by the Bassmaster High School All - American Fishing Team presented by Academy Sports and Outdoors.  This organization has identified and honored student athletes for the past eight years. This year there were nearly 400 applications nominating students in grades 10 - 12 submitted from 34 states across the nation. From those nominations, 53 students were chosen as Bassmaster All-State anglers. The organization considered tournament resumes, conservation efforts, community service activities, and recommendations from school officials and coaches. Finally, a panel of judges representing the sportfishing industry, the media, and conservation groups further narrowed the field to the Top 12 high school anglers in the country.

In an interview with the Courier-Journal, Evan gave credit to his father for his success as an angler. He said, "I wouldn't have been able to do any of this without him. He's my biggest supporter, he's my boat captain and he just does so much for me that he doesn't need to do and I just can't thank him enough."

In May, the All-American team will face off in a tournament held at the 2022 Simms Bassmaster Elite at Lake Fork in Quitman, Texas.

Each top 12 anglers will be paired with an Elite Series pro. What a great way for Evan to finish his senior year! He said winning the tournament would be a dream come true!

Each angler will be paired with an Elite Series pro and, for Fields, he can't wait to get on the water. Closing out his senior year facing the best is a surreal opportunity, but to win the tournament would be a dream come true.
