SCPS presents 5th Annual Share Fair
(Shelbyville, KY) Shelby County Public Schools is pleased to announce the development of it's 5th Annual Share Fair. In the past teachers and district ed tech gurus have shared the latest in educational technology. For the 5th Annual experience, The Share Fair is a chance for our Shelby County Public School educators to share edtech tools or Competency Based Education (CBE) successes, strategies or structures that have positively impacted learning. The name Share Fair came about because this is NOT a typical "sit and git" PD. Teacher presenters lead the participants in a discussion about a particular topic. The learning becomes a two - way street with shared experiences. The sessions are open to Shelby County employees, community members and to people in other districts as well.
In a 2017 article in the KSBA Kentucky School Advocate, by Matt McCarty, SCPS teacher James Wampler said, “The idea being if you have something really cool going on here, hopefully you can share that and they can bring it to where they’re going. As people put their own perspective on the learning, you’ll see it change and morph into really cool things, and when it comes back to you it might be completely different. It’s all about building a network of educators that can share ideas and change things for students.”
With technology evolving daily, the classroom application of new technologies and ideas is always a topic of interest for teachers. Moreover, Shelby County is focusing on Competency Based Education, which refers to systems of instruction, assessment, grading, and academic reporting that are based on students demonstrating that they have learned the knowledge and skills they are expected to learn as they progress through their education.
The idea of Share Fair is growing, thanks in part, to Adam Watson, SCPS's Digital Learning Coordinator. Adam has presented the experiences of past Share Fairs at conferences across the state. Because of his presentations districts are catching on to the positive nature of teachers leading teachers and feeling empowered to create their own share fairs.
This year, the Share Fair will contain four - twenty minute sessions. The sessions will be led by a phenomenal group of educators ready to discuss their topic of choice. Presenters included: Charla Mutchler, Matt Cockrell, Seth Reinhart, Morgan Lane, Brian Wigglesworth, Sean Pigman, Zachary Ramsey, James Wampler, Jennifer Cox, Rachel Kinsey, Nura Mandeel, Amber Hall, LaPorsha Jackson, and Matt Arledge.
