MCMS Leadership Team Comes Together:

Moore, Young and Galindo join Ms. Jones Hocker

Shelby County Public Schools and Ms. Donna Jones Hocker are pleased to announce the Leadership Team for the new K - 8 Marnel C. Moorman School. Ms. Jones Hocker said, “I am extremely excited about the team that has come together for Marnel C. Moorman School.  The combination of talent, years of experience, and commitment to the success of every student is unmatched. There needs to be a firm foundation before innovation can occur, that is just what this new administrative team will provide the students and staff.”

Joining Ms. Jones Hocker as assistant principal is Ms. Toni Moore. Ms. Moore moved to Shelby County when she was in the 7th grade at West Middle School.  She attributes her success as a middle school and high school student to the caring and thoughtful teachers at West Middle. As a 1986 graduate of Shelby County High School, she attended David Lipscomb University on music scholarships and graduated with a major in Elementary Education. She completed her Masters of Education from Georgetown College and received her administration degree from the University of the Cumberlands. Ms. Moore began her teaching career in Nashville teaching a 6th grade self - contained classroom.  She moved home to Shelby County and taught 5th grade at Northside Elementary and then later moved to Heritage Elementary. She coached softball for several years at SCHS and also taught Reading Recovery at Heritage. For the last eight years, Ms. Moore has served as the Assistant Principal at Heritage. “I will truly miss my BIG H family, but am so excited to pursue the challenges of a new school,” said Ms. Moore. “Alongside Mrs. Jones, we will work to create an engaging and caring atmosphere for all. At MCMS, learners will have choice in their ways to learn. The key will be to allow students to master the skills and then apply the skills to real world situations.” Ms. Jones Hocker stated her vision that, “Mrs. Moore will guide the work at the elementary level which is the best way for our team to leverage its strengths.”  

Toni is the daughter of Gene and Pat Dukes and late Marilyn D. Dukes.  She is married to Mike Moore. They have five children, Kipp, Kaleigh, Josh, Kassie and Robbie.

Also, joining the team as an instructional coach is Ms. Jennifer Young.  Ms. Young is a Shelbyville native who received her undergraduate degree in teaching from the University of Kentucky.  She began her teaching career at Clear Creek Elementary. Ms. Young taught elementary school for seven years and has served as an instructional coach for the past four years in both elementary and high school. Ms. Young is married and has a new baby boy.

Ms. Rosie Galindo will serve MCMS as their  guidance counselor. She graduated from Shelby County High School in 2004. Ms. Galindo graduated from the University of Louisville in 2011 with a BA and a focus in psychology planning a career in the medical field.  After receiving her MA in 2016, with a concentration in School Guidance, Ms. Galindo has been a Guidance Counselor at Martha Layne Collins High School. Currently, she is pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology through Spalding University. “I love helping kids and building relationships and getting to know them.  I am a hands-on person and love to interact and be involved.”

SCPS looks forward to this exciting team opening a new school with a strong staff ready to teach amazing students.
