What Do I Need to Know to Register My Child for Kindergarten?
Welcome to Shelby County Public Schools! This is such an exciting time for you and your family.
Because of impending bad weather we cancelled our Kindergarten Readiness Night; however, we have rescheduled that for May 7th at 6:00 pm. This will take place at your child's school and the Marnel C. Moorman kindergarteners will meet at the Northside Early Childhood Center.
Every elementary school is hosting two registration dates: April 16th from 5 pm to 7 pm and April 17th from 9 am to 1pm. During that time, your child will be screened by a school staff member. This is a way for the school to start to know your child socially and academically. So, please make sure to bring them along with you. The kindergarten teachers are mainly the staff that conduct the screening. You will receive a copy of your child's results and they will talk to you about their performance. While your child is busy with the teacher, you will be completing the registration paperwork. The school will also accept any of the following paperwork listed below. Do not feel pressured to collect all of these documents prior to registering your child. You are able to turn the paperwork in any time before the start of school in August.
List of paperwork:
certified birth certificate
health screening from a doctor
two proofs of residence (any official bills or documents will be accepted that show your current address-please avoid junk mail)
social security card
