SCHS Construction Team Wins 2nd in National Competition
Jacob Smith, Kara Phillips, Dylan Steinmiller, Michaela Waldridge, and Michael Sanford are part of the award-winning construction team from Shelby County High School who recently placed 2nd in a National Association of Home Builder's Student Competition in Las Vegas. The competition gives students the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to a real construction company by completing a management project/proposal. Proposals are submitted to a group of construction company executives who act as judges. At IBS, students defend their proposals to the judges in front of an audience. Among the competitors were 40 four year college programs, 14 associate programs, and 7 secondary programs. Mr. Walt Wilson works after hours with the students to ensure that they are prepared, that math is correct and that every component of the competition is ready to go.
In our district's strategic leadership plan, exhibitions and project - based learning are a big part of expectations for student learning. Our SCHS Team represented our district well and we are proud of their hard work and their accomplishment.
