SCPS Principal and FRYSC Coordinator Present in National Webinar
Southside principal, Shannon Pfaff, and Southside Family Resource and Youth Service Center Coordinator, Beth Cathcart advocate daily for the needs of their students and families. Today, April 22nd, 2020, they are presenting in a national webinar with the National Family Support Network and sponsored by NAFSCE, the National Association of Family, School, and Community Engagement. 2000 people are registered to participate across America.
Ms. Pfaff and Ms. Cathcart met with Paul Cookendorfer of the Division of Family Resource and Youth Service Centers with the Cabinet of Health and Family Services. Impressed with the offerings and programs that Southside creates for their families, he recommended them to present on this webinar. Family support and engagement are important in helping children succeed in school. From creating programs to assist grandparents who are raising grandchildren, working with All-Pro Dads, and even creating programs for students to learn through other local agencies like the Shelby County Community Theatre, Southside works to strengthen support for their families and students.
In the webinar, Ms. Pfaff and Ms. Cathcart will tie their presentation to the district's Profile of a Graduate. They will explain how Kentucky's initiative to strengthen families connects to Shelby County Public Schools' Profile of a Graduate and how that all ties to the Southside's vision and mission of being Smart, Strong, and Selfless.
Thank you, Ms. Pfaff and Ms. Cathcart for sharing your knowledge and emphasizing the importance of strong family support and community engagement in Shelby County.
