SCPS Ascension Academy Student Finished GED at 17!
(Shelbyville, Kentucky) Ascension Academy is an alternative school in Shelbyville on the Milestone Campus next to Shelby County High School. Students from Shelby County High School and Collins High School can attend Ascension and do so for many different needs and reasons.
Currently, there are thirteen students, aged 17 and older working to receive a GED. At the SCPS Board of Education meeting on March 27th, two students celebrated an early graduation.
Alan Gramajo was one of those graduates! He is the first 17-year-old in the state to attain his GED. How can he do that?
The Kentucky State Legislature passed a bill last year allowing students in alternative programs to earn their GED if they are not on track to graduate.
We are so proud of this new program that gives students a chance to earn a high school diploma before dropping out of school. Congratulations to Alan, all of our other successful students, and to Ms. Money - Garcia for your hard work and determination.
