October Guidance Lesson

- Today we will look at the first Heritage Habit: spreading kindness, So I can make sure I am practicing our first Heritage Habit. I know I will have it when I am able to show kindness to others add a kindness snippet to the bulletin board.
- Review over what they have learned so far about our first Heritage Habit: Spreading Kindness.
- Review spreading kindness in advisory groups (A little Spot of Kindness!)
- How have you spread kindness this week?
- What does it mean to be kind?
- Discuss for a minute...is it easy to spread kindness when you do not feel good about yourself?
- Quickly in your head name one thing that you like about you.
- Was that easy or hard?
- When we are spreading kindness it needs to be something that means something. Little or big kindness sticks with someone.
- Read Kindness Snippet Jar by Diane Alber
- Explain that we are going to add our own snippets to our own board. Not a jar.
- How you can earn a kindness snippet
- A peer sees you doing something on a snippet (or something kind)
- Not just a friend that you want to make sure gets a snippet really look for the kindness
- An adult sees you doing something on a snippet (or something kind)
- Show the students the snippets that will go in their classrooms
- Explain that adults throughout the building will know that they can give them a snippet
- Talk about how we will end our lessons each time. This year students will have a choice on the last couple of minutes of guidance to transition as well as strategies to help them with coping in different situations.

- Breathing with with your hand
- Follow the 3-3-3 rule.Look around you and name three things you see. Then, name three sounds you hear. Finally, move three parts of your body -- your ankle, fingers, or arm.
