December Guidance Lesson

Grades K-3

  1. Before we get started, we are going to review the ways we can help ourselves get focused.
    1. Coloring (Which we will do at the end)
    2. Breathing using our hands
    3. Our 3 -3-3 rule
    4. New*  Stretches
    5. Breathing by pushing diaphragm out.  (3-4 times) show students deep breath with lungs and then deep breathing with stomach (diaphragm)
  2. Learning Target
    1. Today we will look at the next two Heritage Habits: Learn Everyday and Be Confident.  So I can make sure that I am working on our next Heritage Habit. I know I will have it when I am able to show that I am learning everyday. 
  3. What Heritage Habits have you learned about already?
    1. Spreading Kindness
    2. Learn Everyday
    3. Be Confident
  4. How do you think you have been using the Heritage Habits?
  5. Today we are going to work on Learn Everyday and Being Confident.  In guidance today, we are going to work on learning about ourselves, and learn how to be confident in who we are.
  6. Last month we focused on naming the best parts of ourselves and what we liked about ourselves.  Today we are going to learn about our strengths in school.    
  7. We are going to look at and do this together.  First, I will show you how we are going to answer.   After I have shown you, we will then go to our seats and work on the rest.  (Show students and then have them go to their seats and work on it with them.)
  8. Collect.
  9. Provide students with options in relaxing and getting focus back.

Grades 4-5

 

  1.  Learning Target
    1. Today we will look at the next two Heritage Habits: Learn Everyday and Be Confident.  So I can make sure that I am working on our next Heritage Habit. I know I will have it when I am able to show that I am learning everyday. 
  2. What Heritage Habits have you learned about already?
    1. Spreading Kindness
    2. Learn Everyday
    3. Be Confident
  3. Today we are going to work on Learn Every day and Being Confident.  In guidance today, we are going to work on Learning about ourselves, and learn how to be confident in who we are.
  4. We are going to work on finishing our self assessment on strengths.  Once we are finished with those, we are going to learn how to put them onto our learning profile.  
  5. Students will put their strengths in Empower.
  6. Students will then go back to Thrively and get to explore with a journal entry.  The journal entry gets their thoughts on their strengths and what it means to them.  
  7. When finished or close to the end, we will stop and work on our focus activities (if time).
