Simpsonville Elementary School Announces Drew Robinson as New Principal

Simpsonville, KY – Simpsonville Elementary School is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Drew Robinson as the new principal, bringing with him a strong background in education, leadership, and community involvement.

Dr. Josh Matthews, Superintendent of Shelby County Public Schools said, "As we reviewed candidates, Mr. Robinson quickly emerged as the clear choice to succeed Mrs. Springston. He not only brings valuable experience within the building and under Mrs. Springston’s leadership, but he also possesses a clear vision to build upon past successes and lead Simpsonville Elementary to new heights. Mr. Robinson is a person of high integrity with a strong work ethic, and I am confident that he and his outstanding team will continue to accomplish great things for the students and community of Simpsonville."

Mr. Robinson began his educational journey at the University of Kentucky, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Career and Technical Education with a focus in Agriculture Education. He went on to receive a Master of Arts in Teaching in Educational Leadership and later earned an Education Specialist Degree, both from the University of the Cumberlands.

With over 15 years of experience in education, Mr. Robinson has served in a wide variety of roles that have shaped his leadership and vision. He began his teaching career as an Agriculture Education teacher and FFA Advisor at Anderson County High School and Woodford County High School. His leadership journey took root at Shelby West Middle School, where he served as Assistant Principal for four years, followed by four years as Assistant Principal at Simpsonville Elementary School. In Spring 2023, he also served as Interim Principal at Shelby West Middle School.

In these roles, Mr. Robinson made significant contributions to student success and school operations. His leadership has included responsibilities such as serving as MTSS Coordinator, ARC Chairperson, enforcing disciplinary policies, coordinating PASS and HSC teams, and overseeing emergency management planning. He has played an instrumental role in fostering positive school climates, facilitating staff evaluations and hiring, coordinating events with PTO and community members, and leading initiatives related to school safety and student engagement. Mr. Robinson has also been actively involved at the district level, contributing to committees focused on MTSS, accreditation, and calendar development, as well as participating in the KY Close the Gap Cohort.

Mr. Robinson resides in Shelby County with his wife and two children, both of whom are current students at Simpsonville Elementary. Deeply embedded in the local community, Mr. Robinson can often be found coaching youth sports with Simpsonville Parks and Recreation, demonstrating his passion for building strong relationships both inside and outside the classroom.

“I am honored and excited to continue serving the Simpsonville community in this new role,” said Mr. Robinson. “Simpsonville Elementary is a special place, and I look forward to partnering with our students, families, and staff to build on our culture of excellence and community.”

Dr. Matthews concluded, "I want to thank the Simpsonville SBDM Council for their time and effort throughout the principal selection process. I also appreciate the strong engagement from our Simpsonville community—many individuals took the time to complete the stakeholder questionnaires, and we received an outstanding response. In the spirit of transparency, a significant number of community members specifically identified Mr. Robinson as their preferred choice for principal. Finally, I want to express my gratitude to my executive cabinet for their dedication to this process, especially Dr. Hicks, who provides invaluable support throughout the process."
