Time for Tennis! 7th or 8th grade students who are interested in playing tennis for SCHS should attend an interest meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 4 after school. Students must have a note to walk to the high school for approval.

Due to extreme cold weather conditions, Shelby County Public Schools will operate on a Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) Day on Wednesday, January 22nd. This is NTI Day #4 for SCPS.
Attention Boys! It's almost time for Boys Soccer! Open Fields/Conditioning begins Feb. 10. Tryouts will be Feb. 20-21. A current KHSAA sports physical is required for participation in Open Fields/Conditioning and Tryouts.
Attention Girls! It's time for GIRLS SOCCER! There will be a Parent Information meeting on Wednesday, 1/22 at 6:15 pm in the East Middle Cafeteria. Please join us if you're interested!
Shelby County Public Schools is in service on Tuesday, January 21st. We have had many questions about the cold weather and we want our community to know that student safety is our priority.
During extremely cold weather, Shelby County Public Schools follows the guidance of the National Weather Service when making decisions to protect our students. On October 1st, 2024, the National Weather Service shared the following information:
Cold Weather Advisory: Issued when seasonably cold air temperatures or wind chill values, but not extremely cold conditions, are expected or occurring.
Extreme Cold Watch/Warning:
- Watch: Indicates that dangerously cold air temperatures or wind chill values are possible.
- Warning: Issued when such conditions are imminent or occurring.
If an Extreme Cold Warning is issued, Shelby County Public Schools will close.
Because weather predictions can change from moment to moment, sometimes, the closures may happen on the day of the event. Other issues could also cause the school district to close in cold weather such as buses that will not start.
If your child needs a coat, gloves, or warm clothing, please consult with your school’s Family Resource and Youth Service Center. Also, download the Stopfinder app to get updates on your buses.
If SCPS decides to close, parents, students, and staff are notified through our Thrillshare Mass Notification System via text, phone call, email, and social media. Moreover, we will also send notifications to WLKY, WAVE3, WHAS11, and WDRB.

Good afternoon families! East Middle School will be participating in a winter necessities drive beginning today and go through Jan. 31, 2025. If you have any new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, etc, please send them in, with your child, to the Family Resource Center and I will happily get them where they need to be! Thank you for your help with this.
Dr. Matthews, Superintendent of Shelby County Schools, plans to make an announcement tonight regarding school for Monday, January 13th. He and the transportation team are driving roads and considering tomorrow's weather-related and transportation issues. Please stand by.

CPS Families:
Please make sure that you have child care ready if school is canceled due to bad weather.
Check to make sure you are connected to ROOMS. This will be the way teachers communicate if there is an Non-Traditional Instruction Day.
Ensure that your child’s devices are ready, and that they have access to the necessary materials or online platforms to continue their learning from home, if needed.

Beginning January 6, 2025 (the Monday we come back from Holiday Break), we will partner with other schools in the county to have a Winter Clothes Drive. Jackets, scarves, mittens/gloves, socks and hats are needed. They can be new or gently used. The drive will run through the end of January. Thank you in advance for your help with this drive; it will go to benefit the homeless and less fortunate in our county.
This week at East Middle, we will count down the days to winter break by celebrating the season with a Spirit Week. Each day has it's own dress-up theme. Find your red and green gear and join in the fun!
Monday: Wear red and green or your favorite Christmas Shirt!
Tuesday: Wear Camo!
Wednesday: Wear a holiday hat or hair accessory!
Thursday: Wear an ugly Christmas sweater!
Friday: Wear Pajamas!
On Wednesday, December 11, several of our East Middle students read books on kindness to students at Wright Elementary. This was part of our "Kindness Club" and was an opportunity to help teach younger students how a Global Citizen impacts the community responsibly.
