Superintendent Dr. Joshua Matthews shared, “We are excited to welcome Mrs. Angie Deckard back to the Shelby County family. She brings a proven record of successful leadership as a principal and a strong commitment to building relationships while maintaining high expectations for students and staff. As we continue our work to ‘Complete the Circle,’ Mrs. Deckard is the right leader to help move Shelby County High School forward and support continued growth in student enrollment. I would like to thank Dr. Carla Kent for laying a strong foundation over the past three years, as well as Dr. Adam Hicks, Ms. JJ Black, and the entire SBDM council for their dedication throughout the principal hiring process. I also appreciate the contributions of my executive team, whose collaboration was instrumental in this decision. This is a significant win for Shelby County High School.”
Mrs. Deckard holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and Supervision from the University of Tennessee at Martin. She also earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Wichita State University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Anderson University, after beginning her studies at Purdue University.
Prior to her role in Eminence, Mrs. Deckard served Shelby County Public Schools from 2001 to 2015 as a math teacher and instructional coach at Shelby County High School, and then as assistant principal at Martha Layne Collins High School. In these roles, she demonstrated a strong commitment to student growth and academic excellence, implementing student-centered instructional practices and supporting colleagues through collaboration, coaching, and professional development.
“I am excited to return to the district where my educational career began and where I have long considered home”, said Mrs. Deckard. “I look forward to continuing to build strong foundations that empower students to achieve great things while supporting the vibrant Shelby County community. Since moving to the community in 2001, my family and I have been embraced with unwavering support, and I am honored to have the opportunity to give back to the students, families, and community that have meant so much to us”.
Mrs. Deckard and her husband have called Shelby County home for the past 25 years, where they have raised their three children in Bagdad.
