SCPS Teacher Receives Statewide KECSAC Outstanding Teacher Award

Shelby County Public Schools is proud to announce that Jeff Bracken, a teacher at Shelby Academy, has been selected as the recipient of the 2025-2026 Roy L. Chapman KECSAC (Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children), “Outstanding Teacher of State Agency Children Award”. This prestigious statewide honor recognizes exceptional educators who demonstrate extraordinary commitment and service to Kentucky’s State Agency Children.

Mr. Bracken will be recognized during a special awards ceremony at the 25th Annual Kentucky Alternative Education Summit on July 28, 2026, at the Embassy Suites in Lexington. The award honors educators who exemplify the dedication, compassion, and excellence necessary to serve some of Kentucky’s most vulnerable youth. KECSAC noted that Mr. Bracken’s work reflects the kind of commitment and care the organization seeks to foster among educators serving State Agency Children.

A dedicated educator for 17 years, Mr. Bracken spent 15 years at Shelby County High School, where he earned the school's Teacher of the Year distinction in both 2012 and 2021. In 2021, he was also honored as the Shelby County Public Schools District Teacher of the Year and received the prestigious WHAS ExCEL Award. For the past two years, he has served students through Shelby Academy, continuing his passion for supporting students and helping them achieve academic and personal success.

Mr. Bracken earned a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies from Western Kentucky University and a master's degree in Special Education from the University of the Cumberlands. He recently completed his Rank I certification through the University of Kentucky's Next Gen Changemakers program, further demonstrating his commitment to professional growth and educational leadership.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Bracken is deeply committed to his family and community. He and his wife are the proud parents of Abigail, a student at East Middle School, and Isaiah, a student at Shelby County High School. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, following the University of Kentucky basketball, reading Calvin and Hobbes, and, most importantly, serving through his local church, Christ Community Church.

"Mr. Bracken’s unwavering dedication to students, especially those who face significant challenges, embodies the very best of Shelby County Public Schools," said Dr. Matthews. "This recognition is a testament to the positive impact he has made on the lives of countless students and families throughout his career. We are incredibly proud of him and grateful for his service."
